The new rules of sales: is cold calling dead?  David Meerman Scott thinks so!

Speaking Industry

“The way people buy has changed – and the rules to engage them have, too.  Seller beware – if you want to grow business and generate attention for your products or services, you ignore this trend at your own risk.” – David Meerman Scott

David Meerman Scott’s commentary last month, “Cold Calling is Dead”, generated some strong reactions from people with opinions both pro and con.

David made a very persuasive case. In a world where the people you want to reach hide behind voice mail and press DELETE when your email lands in their inbox, there has to be a better way to generate interest in your products, services and ideas.  Scott outlined the antidote in his newest book, released in September: The New Rules of Sales and Service. The strategies and insights he offers up are rooted in the “Real-Time” and “Instant” communication tools that have transformed the way business is being done.  As David says – social media, blogging, video, etc. are just the tools — the game-changer is developing a real-time mindset.  That’s how to achieve success in a world that’s moving this fast and his strategies are being used by forward-thinking companies who are working to get their arms around this before their competition does.

If you’re interested in learning more, this is a great new preview video of David and his work — and this slideshare, The New Rules of Selling, has already been downloaded over 117,000 times and can inspire you with some great ideas you might use for your own sales work.  As a speaker, any conference where the focus is improving sales, gaining market share, growing business and influence is a perfect setting for his message.
