SUCCESSFUL CHANGE MANAGEMENT: CREDIT UNION EXECS LEARN MAVERICK RULES
A month ago former founding member of Fast Company POLLY LaBARRE spoke to an audience of credit union executives in San Diego. They gathered to re-imagine ways to respond to the changes rocking their industry. Polly’s talk gave the audience a maverick manifesto to change the way they go about changing their organizations. The talk was wildly received.
HOW TOP ORGANIZATIONS MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN
There are five qualities that are the hallmark of organizations who are leading in the derby to change as fast as change itself. Here's what they do:
LEAD WITHOUT AUTHORITY - just because someone has a title doesn't make them a leader. In the new world, you're a leader if you have followers.
CHANGE HOW YOU CHANGE - it's not about the change "master plan." Most big change initiatives fail. There's another way to approach organizational change -- the maverick way.
TRY IT - Ready, Fire, Aim! That's the mantra today. Just try it and see if the idea's worth developing further.
OPEN UP - don't count on the best ideas only coming from your own organization. Let your customers, vendors, suppliers, fans and other interested parties participate and help find ways for you to improve and innovate.
LEARN AS FAST AS THE WORLD IS CHANGING - The speed of change is blinding and the only antidote is learning as fast as the change around you.
WATCH POLLY SPEAK: LEGO OPENS UP AND BECOMES AN INNOVATION MACHINE
Here’s a video from the talk to credit union execs in May. In it Polly talks about one of her favorite new successful change management examples: Lego. The company opened up product design to fans in order to ramp up innovation. It worked.
POLLY LABARRE - AN OUTSTANDING SPEAKER ON INNOVATION
Two weeks ago Polly spoke in Williamsburg, Virginia. Here’s the post event quote from that event:
"We could not have had a better presentation to close out our Wednesday session. Your insight on innovation in the workplace, as well as how we can better incorporate innovation into our company DNA, was a hit!"-- President and CEO, Aerospace Industries Association
